Sustainability

In a constantly changing world, where the impact of human activities on nature is becoming more and more obvious, “Cricova” Winery has made a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. As a result of a strong sense of inspiration, “Cricova” Winery decided to raise the cultivation of the vine and the production of wines to another level, therefore winery started the process of planting organic vines and producing ECO wines.

Ecological Agriculture

In 2017, “Cricova” Winery took the first important step towards sustainability by planting organic vines. This initiative aims to reduce the negative impact on the environment, protect biodiversity, maintain soil fertility and a healthy balance in the ecosystem.
The management of organic vines involves the use of products of exclusively natural origin for the fertilization and protection of the vine, the prohibition of GMOs, and the care of the plantation being based strictly on manual works. For growing and caring for this vine, the systems and cycles of nature are respected, which maintain and improve the health of the soil, plants and water, but also the balance between them. In order to obtain healthy plantations, that correspond the national and international ecological certification standards, the company’s specialists emphasize natural grassing, which allows the creation of a balanced and diverse environment, which compensates for the lack of treatments with systemic substances and ensures the deficiency of humidity. Also, the wine-making materials after processing (bunch, grape marc) are subsequently used as organic fertilizers for vines.
In addition, “Cricova” Winery uses advanced drone technology for sprinkling vines. This innovative method allows for quick and effective coverage of the entire surface, ensuring uniform protection of the vine, minimizing losses and maximizing the effectiveness of treatments. The main indicators confirming the effectiveness of this technique are time and productivity, as a result contributing to the sustainability and performance of the vine in a more environmentally and economically advantageous way.

Release of organic wines

In 2023, “Cricova” Winery launched for the first time the series of monovarietal organic wines from the Republic of Moldova called WILD. The range contains 2 organic wines: “WILD Fetească Regală”- dry white wine, fresh and expressive that conquers through the explosion of floral and fruity flavors where white peach, pears and citrus notes are distinguished. “WILD Fetească Neagră” – dry rose wine, gorgeous and fine, surprises by the complexity of flavors of ripe red fruits, cherries, raspberries and rose petals.

In 2024, the range of organic products expanded with two new wines: dry white wine “WILD Viorica”, an incredibly refined wine, what is distinguished by pronounced aromas of basil, white flowers and yellow apples and “WILD Viorica” – a sparkling wine white semi-dry with an overwhelming aroma of yellow apples and litchi in tandem with citrus notes.
For the production of these wines, the grapes were hand-picked, the wine was fermented without additional yeast, and no artificial additives or nutrients were included in the technological process, each process is confirmed by normative acts. This success was due to investments in modern management methods, qualified workers and state-of-the-art technologies.

ECO certification

In 2025, the “Cricova” Winery obtained the organic certificate in accordance with European Regulation 848/2018, issued by Ceres GmbH, which confirms the certification of organic products for the European market. More recently, the Fair and Green sustainability system was implemented, designed to evaluate wine businesses according to the sustainability standards recognized at European level. This system underlines that our eco wines are considered “sustainable”.

Green Energy: Photovoltaic panels

In addition to the development of organic vine plantations and the production of organic wines, we have carried out an ambitious project with the support of the Agency for Intervention and Payments for Agriculture: the creation of a photovoltaic park. This is a first for the “Cricova” Winery and an important step in the direction of green energy. A good part of the winery works with the green energy obtained thanks to the photovoltaic park, including the underground galleries “Cricova”, in addition, so far we have managed to recover over 65% of the investment value.

Managing corporate reputation for sustainability and sanitation

Sanitation is an essential first step towards protecting nature and regenerating affected ecosystems. Concrete actions, such as waste collection and cleaning of natural spaces, are necessary to restore balance in the environment. The “Cricova” Winery actively participates and promotes social responsibility and environmental protection events.
Managing the corporate reputation for sustainability and sanitation at “Cricova” Winery is an example of good practices in the wine industry, demonstrating how a company can combine economic success with environmental and community responsibility.
